First Day of Kindergarten

Today was our first day of kindergarten and we had a great start to our year! There were a few students who had some trouble with parents leaving, but they soon go into the kindergarten spirit and joined our class. There is so much to go over in the first few weeks about procedures and rules, so we started out slowly with the most important rules using Whole Body Listening (making sure every part of our body was ready to learn). We wrote our names in rainbow colors and drew a picture and while we were finishing, we received a note from Clifford, The Big Red Dog. He was lost and needed our help! He left us some clues which lead us to the bathroom, the library, and the MP room before we finally found him in the office! This gave me a chance to explain where things are on campus in a fun way. Clifford even had a reward for each student once they found him (dog bone shaped sugar cookies). Then we went to snack/recess time. After that, we went back to our room for some fine motor skills play with playdough and salt trays while our two parent volunteers took each student's handprint for our memory books. We ended our day with a story about the first day of kindergarten. Tomorrow is Friday! I will send home school forms that need to be returned in the folders on Monday. Have a great day!
